The Eyes2Health PurposeEyes2Health Goal: Healthy AgingOur goal is to create a healthier aging population that will enjoy a high quality of life in the later years. Our technologies and methods are designed to be affordable, accessible, non-invasive and highly effective. The lens of the eye is the only transparent tissue of the human body that can be easily and quickly examined. We use this unique "window" to examine biomarkers of inflammation that can forecast the likelihood of ailments that occur later in life. Eyes2Health Need: Allieviating DistressMillions of Americans suffer Alzheimer's Disease (5 million), Parkinson's Disease (half a million), Type2 Diabetes (18 million), Macular Degeration (1.75 million) and other age-related ailments. The distress caused to sufferers and their families is inestimable. Even small improvements can have huge multiplying effects. By acting early the benefits can be increased significantly. Eyes2Health Cost: Billions of DollarsIn 2010, the first of the 76 million baby boomers will turn 65, the age when health care costs typically begin to escalate. A third of the more than $1.7 trillion currently spent on US healthcare is spent on services for older Americans, and by 2030, half of projected $4 trillion healthcare costs will be spent on people 65 or older. The US economic data indicate costs of $600 billion a year—$150 billion for neuro-degenerative disease and $448 billion for cardiovascular disease. Eyes2Health Method: Eye ExaminationsInnovative 3-D tomographic reconstruction algorithms in x-ray detection systems, currently used to spot explosives in airport baggage, is now being developed for use in "reading" digital images of the eye. This method enables standardized measurement of biomarkers in the eye. Similar techniques have been used in medical imaging for nuclear medicine. Our unique technology uses the images your optometrist takes during an eye examination using a microscope and camera. The microscope examination is performed during an eye examination but our technology allows digital images that are taken in that process to be analyzed for detection of subtle, early signs of systemic disease. Eyes2Health Results: TreatmentsDelaying the onset symptoms and/or reducing the effects of these conditions can offer a huge allieviation to all concerned. Early diagnosis offers the opportunity to prescribe treatment. Our key success factors involve developing technology that:
Treatments are likely to include diet, supplements, mental and physical exercise, social interaction, spiritual practice, community service—in short treating the 'whole person'. Eyes2Health Pledge: EducationWe are dedicated to providing the highest quality educational material for clinical partners, patients, their families, and healthcare professionals to insure that our process is understood and treatment is followed. “A shift towards prevention is desperately needed at this moment in history, as nations bear the rising health-care costs of increasingly aging populations.” (The Myth of Alzheimer’s by Peter J Whitehouse MD, PhD, 2008). |
